"We are known for having pushed the industry in terms of geometry since we were founded. To best serve the privateer enduro racer, for Gen 2, should we change from horst-link to a different suspension platform?"

Tom Marchment, Co-Founder Privateer Bikes - Spring 2021

“Confidence is everything; if you feel confident, you’ll ride well. For me, that means predictability, consistency and reliability so the bike always responds how you'd expect. We explored options, like high pivot designs, but found the best balance in a Horst layout.

By designing the geometry, suspension and manufacturing holistically, I squeezed out every bit of confidence I could. The result of it all is bikes that absolutely rip and I’m excited to see quite how far they can be pushed!”

PROGRESSION

PROGRESSION

A high leverage rate/ratio at the start easily overcomes stiction in seals for coil like suspension even with an air shock.

LEVERAGE RATE

LEVERAGE RATE

Leverage rate describes the change in force at the back wheel. We wanted low force at the back wheel at the start of travel this means we have increased grip and less force is transmitted to the rider, minimising fatigue while you’re rattling trails.

Progression at the end of the stroke provides plenty of bottom out resistance so the bike will be able to take whatever you throw at it.

We've aimed for as linearly progressive a leverage rate as we could to offer predictability for charging hard.

ANTI-RISE

ANTI-RISE

Anti rise describes the bikes characteristics under braking.

A low anti rise percentage means the suspension stays very active but doesn’t control load transfer under braking well. High anti rise numbers control load transfer under braking well, but sacrifice suspension sensitivity.

We wanted our Gen 2 bikes to have a great balance of chassis stability and braking traction so you can send it and know you can brake late with confidence.

We also wanted the suspension to behave consistantly no matter where it is in the travel so you can focus on the trail.

STABLE PEDAL
PLATFORM

STABLE PEDAL
PLATFORM

A great balance of pedalling support and grip in all gears so you can always get the power down.

ANTI-SQUAT

ANTI-SQUAT

Anti squat describes the rear suspension stiffening under power.

Low anti squat delivers great traction but doesn’t resist pedal bob well.

High anti squat resists pedal bob efficiently but sacrifices traction.

We wanted to provide a great balance of pedalling support and grip in all gears so you can always get the power down.
We wanted the anti-squat to be consistent through the travel to be confidence inspiring.

We also increased the anti squat as you get into the harder gears. So when you re out of the saddle sprinting you get the additional pedal support you need.

CUSTOM-TUNED
FOX SUSPENSION

CUSTOM-TUNED
FOX SUSPENSION

Working closely with Fox, all Gen 2 bikes and framesets use a custom-tuned shock to get the best performance from our A-L-P Suspension platform.

MIXED WHEEL ADJUSTABILITY

MIXED WHEEL ADJUSTABILITY

Gen 2 bikes feature a simple flip chip located in the seat stays, which allows riders to swap between a 29" rear-wheel or a 27.5" rear wheel.

THE DETAILS

Having the option to switch between a large 29-inch wheel and a smaller 27.5-inch wheel on your Gen 2 bike is another great way to dial in your bike to suit your riding preferences. The bigger 29-inch wheels roll over obstacles smoothly, making your ride feel more stable, especially on rough trails. They keep momentum well and offer good traction, perfect for maintaining control.

THE DETAILS

The smaller 27.5-inch wheels can provide more agility, requiring less effort to quickly switch direction. Our flip-chip system allows you to switch between wheel sizes without affecting the geometry or upsetting the balance of your bike, so you can enjoy the benefits of full 29er or mullet setups.

SIZE SPECIFIC CHAINSTAYS

SIZE SPECIFIC CHAINSTAYS

Keeping the rider balanced is a key ingredient to boosting confidence. One way we achieve this is through our size-specific chainstay lengths.

THE DETAILS

THE DETAILS

We believe the length of the rear centre is just as crucial to achieving a balanced and confidence-inspiring ride as reach. It makes sense that taller riders require more reach than shorter riders, but by increasing this measurement alone, the bike's overall balance is upset.

THE DETAILS

THE DETAILS

By tailoring the length of the rear centre to accommodate different rider heights, Gen 2 bikes provide a consistent and predictable riding experience all various frame sizes. Climbing performance is enhanced, as the weight distribution is carefully balanced for each rider's size, promoting better traction on steep climbs.

ADJUSTABLE
REAR CENTRE

A flip-chip located at the rear axle allows chainstay length to be increased by 10mm, allowing riders to choose what works best for them.

Gen 2 bikes offer riders an additional 10mm increase that can be adjusted via our simple-to-use flip-chip system.

This allows riders to adapt the balance of their bike based on riding style or terrain.

Our flip-chip requires no additional hardware to adjust from ‘standard’ to 'long' settings; thanks to a cleverly designed reversible brake calliper mount, you can quickly switch lengths and hit back-to-back runs to see which you prefer

EFFICIENT CLIMBING POSITION

EFFICIENT CLIMBING POSITION

A steeper seat tube angle puts you in a more centred position for climbing and makes it easier to shift you weight forward and backward as needed.

THE DETAILS

THE DETAILS

Gen 2 bikes continue with our approach to seat tube angles that promote climbing efficiency. The Gen 2 161 sports an 80-degree effective (77-degree actual) seat tube angle, and the Gen 2 141 gets a 78.5-degree effective (76.5-degree actual) seat tube angle. Plus, the updated full insertion seat tube design gives you plenty of room to slam your dropper post completely for going big.
